Yesterday Night I Sold My Dreams

by Nitish
(Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, INDIA)

Yesterday night,
I sold my dreams
and retained my memory back.
Yeah, you are right,
am not one of those fortunates
who can have both.
Thus had to sell one
to buy another.
But I must say,
The exchange was right,
and the exchange was fair tight.

And it all began with a bad luck bet
which I lose to God after all.
My memory was all the treasure
on which I was cashing upon.
So He had given me three options to buy my memory back.
My Dreams, My Heart and My Life
to sell some parts of these and have those back.
First of all I chose, my dreams.
Oh that was an easy one.
You could have just picked up that
even if you are blind by your conscience.
Since having a dream without memories is
just like a tree without roots.
So I bartered it first.

And yes, to my surprise I got all
but some parts of my memory back.
Buyers said,
those remaining were too precious to buy with my dreams.
Now I had other two options to sell,
my heart and my breath.
Selling dreams was an easy one.
But how to choose next?
Can you suggest?

If you have ever fallen in love,
you won't sell your heart to anyone right away.
Or, do you??
I guess, you won't.
Even if in case you sell,
what would you buy then?
Some memory of a stranger,
whom you don't recognize at all.
Certainly not a better trade.

Now let's see what options does this breath of mine hold.
They say, memory resides with you even after your death.
That was the single hope on which I dwelt.
Certainly I had two options then,
selling my breath and to hold memory of my beloved back.
Or to sell my heart and don't recognize her at all.
What do you say? What do you suggest?
What should I have chosen?

Should I have sold my breath or should I have sold my heart?
Be judge to me now and decide
What I have done is wrong or right.
I have chosen to exchange my breath
for inhaling her memory in next birth of mine.
Now you say, what you could have done?
I guess, the same footprints you too would have left,
had you been in my place?
I guess, I am right. Ain't I ???

I agree with Allie & Davo! But do keep trying, it's not the best and not the worst poem I've read but it was a bit too long for me.

A few corrections
by: Anonymous

Very well written and meaningful poem.

Correction 1-am not one of those fortunates..instead write- am not the fortunate one.

Correction 2- And it all began with a bad luck bet
which I lose to God after all.
Instead write- And it all began with an ill fated bet which I lost to God after all.

Correction 3-to sell some parts of these and have those back...
here not parts but the thing as a whole is sold..so changes must be made accordingly.we r nt doing permutations nd combinations..rite!:P..:)

Bravo! A much meaningful poem!

Very Good

Another very good and moving poem. This one tells a story of sadness. Memories are forever, if you so choose. Life goes on. Make some more memories. I think the language difference might be causing some confusion for people. I really enjoy your work.

Another Excellent Poem
by: Allie

Sometimes you must take the reins and breathe life into your memories YOURSELF! I like this poem too! Just wasn't enough rhyme in it for me. I like poems that rhyme.

Life moves on
by: Anonymous

Life is all about moving on! Many a times, u won't get what u desire but then that does not mean that ur life ends there! Try to chase some other passion, which may help u to forget ur old memories!
