Time For Change

You live your life full of strife
No one trusts you, not even your wife

You feel like a joke cause you're always broke
from blowing your money on booze and coke

Not a friend can be found that wants you around
because all you do is let them down

They try to get you to stop and think
but all you want is another drink
or another joint, or another line
and before you know it you're doing time

You feel like hell in your cell
with nothing to look forward to but chow and mail

You miss your family and all day long
you sit and you wonder about what went wrong

For those like me, that fall in this range
it's plain to see that it's time for change

Have been down this road with my boyfriend. We have been on this road a while. Every time we make it past another curve, it just gets better. Hang in there you can make it. The hills are worth the destination.

I too can relate to this poem. Not directly for myself, but for a loved one...temporarily lost to us. That dark path of drugs and alcohol took him away from us for too long a time...some in jail...some just lost. I can only hope he too has reached the point of realization, and makes the choice to stay with us this time...and enjoy what 'real' life has to offer. Your poem shows true experience and hope for a brighter future.
