MAY YOUR CHRISTMAS

May your Christmas carolers all sing in tune
May your cards go out on time,
May your spouse not be at the poolroom
While you're waiting at the mall for a ride.

May the busy season not drive you berserk
With shopping, wrapping and decorating the tree,
May it be someone else who does all the work
And all the credit may you receive.

May your eggnog be made with 80-proof rum
May your holiday punch be spiked,
May out of your head stay sugar plums
May it not be your job to string lights.

May you not drink too much and accidentally barf
All over someone's holiday attire,
When your stockings are hanging from the hearth
May they not be too close and catch fire.

May you not be burned by hot candle wax
Gas prices, department stores or thieves,
And come the New Year, may you owe no tax
May you always have an ace up your sleeve.

May your Christmas be merry
May your Yule Log burn bright,
May Santa leave under your tree
All those gifts you forgot to buy.

Just as if special ordered
May your holidays be,
And when the season’s over
May we all breathe a sigh of relief.

BEYOND NAUGHTY

I saw Saint Nicholas on the street today
In his hands two mighty scrolls,
I stopped to tell the jolly elf “Hey”
And to sneak a peak at the parchment rolls.

I knew he held the legendary lists
Of who was naughty and who was nice,
Try as I might, all I got was a glimpse
But I saw one name I recognized.

It was first under a heading “Deliver No Gifts”
Not this Christmas or any to come,
And from their rooftop a departure swift
For the wrongdoings that have been done.

For using the feelings of others to mop the floors
For the lies that from their mouth doth pour,
Santa’s not the only one keeping score ...
The name I saw was
YOURS ... YOURS ... YOURS!

THE NEW YEAR

To My Baby Sister
I pray the New Year brings,
Only that which makes you happy
A song your heart to sing.

For no one else in all the world
Is more deserving than you,
The caretaker of my sorry soul
The one who sees me through.

So Happy New Year, Little Girl
I know God smiles down on you,
For your lifting of spirits,
the tender care in your hands
Are untiring, tried and true.

And know from this day forward
That my savior is who you are,
And that I love you with all my being
With every fiber of my heart.
